Connect Ableton Live
Install the Remote Script and choose it in Live’s preferences.
When SetStage has nothing to show yet, the setlist becomes a short checklist that counts how many steps are done:
- Install the Remote Script. This copies SetStageRemote into Ableton’s User Library.
- Connect Ableton Live. Restart Live, open Preferences, then Link, Tempo & MIDI, choose SetStageRemote as a Control Surface, and leave Input and Output on None.
- Add song markers in Live. The checklist tells you how many songs it found.
- Pair your phone. This step is optional.
Install or update the script
In Settings, under Ableton, the Installed script line says whether the script is missing, up to date, or has a newer version available. Choose Install Remote Script, or Update Remote Script when one is waiting, then restart Live. Show in Finder opens the install location.
If SetStageRemote is not in the list
If you have moved Live’s User Library, SetStage installed the script to the default location, which Live does not read. Copy the SetStageRemote folder from ~/Music/Ableton/User Library/Remote Scripts into the Remote Scripts folder of your User Library, then restart Live.
If the connection drops
If Live goes away mid-show, SetStage says “Lost contact with Ableton Live” and turns the playback controls off. Your songs come back on their own when Live reconnects. Check that Live is running with your set open and that SetStageRemote is still selected, then use Refresh Session in Settings, Ableton.
Good to know
- The connection never leaves your Mac. SetStage listens on OSC port 9001 and the Remote Script on port 9002, both on 127.0.0.1 only.
- The ports carry no authentication, which suits a single-user performance machine. Do not forward them off the machine.
- Phones and tablets connect through SetStage’s own paired and encrypted Remote service, not through these ports.
