Playing a song
How selecting, playing, pausing and stopping behave.
SetStage separates choosing a song from playing it. That keeps a stray click from starting the wrong song on stage.
Select, then play
- Clicking a song selects it. While Live is stopped, this also moves Live’s playhead to the start of that song. “Reset cue when selecting a song” in Settings controls that.
- Clicking a section moves the playhead to that section when Live is stopped.
- Previous Song and Next Song move the selection through the setlist. They do not start playback.
- Play starts the selected song. It starts at the selected section when “Play starts from selected section” is on, otherwise at the song’s cue.
Pause, resume and stop
- Pause holds the song where it is, and the button becomes Resume.
- Stop ends playback, clears the selected section, and returns the song to its start, ready to play again.
The spacebar
Space is a play and stop key. It starts the show when it is stopped, resumes a paused song, and stops it while it is playing. It is on by default and can be turned off in Settings, Playback. Another key you give to Play/Pause pauses and resumes instead.
Moving inside a song
- Click the timeline in the song details to move Live’s playhead there. If the song is playing, it carries on from the new position.
- Next Marker and Previous Marker jump to the next or previous section, and keep playing if the song was playing.
- While a song is playing, the selection follows it when “Auto-select the playing song” is on.
Markers that stop the show
When “Stop at song-end and stop markers” is on, which it is by default, SetStage stops Live at a SONG END or STOP locator and holds the cue there, so the next Play carries on from that point. A project can switch this, and “Play starts from selected section”, on or off for itself.
What happens at the end of a song
In the song details, “When this song ends” decides what follows a SONG END marker. Each song has its own setting.
